A new iPhone app developed by San Francisco based Goodguide will allow users to scan barcodes to find out the products and the companies health, environmental and social responsibly rating.

The consumer based website, Goodguide already has data on their website on a huge range of consumer products but the new app will allow you to get the information on 50,000 products by scanning them whilst out shopping.

The iPhone app has been made to help consumers to find greener and healthier products as munch of this information can’t currently be found on the product labels. Examples of how it could help people include helping to choose a healthier toothpaste or finding out whether products really are organic.

Goodguide says that over time lots more products will added and the service will become much stronger.

The app which is available for free can also create custom shopping lists and product comparisons that can be shared with other users.
