Apple Turning Green – Public Disclosure of Environmental Impacts

Last week Apple updated its website and added a ‘life cycle impact’ section which shows how their products are currently affecting the environment.
The new section has a picture which splits the company’s emissions into categories which include those arising from manufacturing, (38%) product use, (53%) facilities, (3%) transportation (5%) and recycling. (1%)
Also in the new section are downloadable reports for all Apple’s past and present products showing detailed breakdowns of each product’s environmental virtues.
Apple also states that all iPods and iPhones are now PVC free and that the internal cables and circuit boards in MacBooks are free of BFRs and PVCs.
Greenpeace’s Toxic Campaigner, Casey Harrell said that no other company was reporting the CO2 life cycle impact for whole product ranges the same way Apple is.
