Apple have recently refused to repair a broken iPhone in Norway as they say it was used in temperatures below zero which is against the specification.

As owner of the iPhone Lenin Kristin Lovvik connected the iPhone to his car stereo the temperature outside was -12. Lenin says that the inside of the car was up to 20 degrees by the time the iPhone stopped working but Apple have said that iPhones cannot be used in sub zero temperatures.

Apple have refused to comment on the issue but the iPhone’s specification is clear that they are made for hot sunny beaches and not cold snowy mountains.

In comparison with the competition its recommended that the Samsung Galaxy S is kept above freezing but doesn’t state that they won’t repair it if you don’t and the Sony Ericsson X10 is tough enough to work at temperatures around -10. As temperatures in the UK have already hit -12 this Winter this could be important in the future when considering a new phone to buy.
